Energy prices surged 14.3% in February, led by a 13.6% increase in crude oil and an almost doubling of U.S. natural gas prices, the World Bank's Pink Sheet reported. Non-energy prices gained 2.5%.
Agricultural prices increased 1.1% in February. Food prices advanced 1%, led by a 3.5% gain in grain prices. Raw materials rose 1.6% while beverages increased 1%. Fertilizer surged more than 20%.
Metal prices gained 3.6% in February, following increases tin (+20.1%), copper (+6.3%), nickel (+4%), aluminum (+3.7%), and lead (+3.2%). Precious metals declined 1.5%, following a 3.2% drop in gold and despite a 10.6% surge in silver.
