Controlled Explosives Disposal to Take Place at the Frank R. Bowerman Landfill

The OC Sheriff Department's Hazardous Devices Section (HDS) will conduct a controlled disposal of 60 pounds of explosive materials at the Frank R. Bowerman Landfill in Irvine, Wednesday, June 8. Residents or those in the area may hear loud explosive noises from approximately 10-11 a.m. during this process. Irvine PD and the Orange County Sheriff's Department will be updating their respective social media pages with this information.

HDS will be safely destroying expired training materials and explosive materials in 'shot holes' dug into the ground. Approximately eight pounds of material will be detonated in a fully enclosed container designed to safety transport or destroy explosives.

The Orange County Fire Authority, Orange County Health Care Agency, and OC Sheriff tactical medics will be on-site to ensure the health and safety of all involved.

If you have any questions regarding the disposal event, please contact OCSD at 949-770-6011.
