In recent years, we have witnessed many challenges, crises and conflicts. Our cooperation within the Union for the Mediterranean has shown that these issues can only be resolved by joint efforts. Today, as we face the biggest health crisis of this century, we believe that our cooperation can build peace, stability, prosperity and progress in the Euro-Mediterranean region, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović at the 6th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in Barcelona.

The event was hosted by Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of SpainJosé Manuel Albares, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Ayman Safadi. The representatives of 42 countries, including the EU and the African continent, took part in the Forum.

Minister Radulović said that the Euro-Mediterranean area is the confluence of three continents, the cradle of three religions and the meeting point of two coastal strips. He emphasised the importance of achieving the goals of the UfM, which refer to the elimination of pollution of the Mediterranean Sea, protection of the environment and biodiversity, fight against climate change, as well as creating opportunities for women's empowerment, youth support, greater mobility, scientific research and university cooperation.

Minister Radulović noted that the Government of Montenegro during this year declared two protected marine areas in the country - nature parks Platamuni and Katič, and that by the end of 2021 it plans to declare a third marine and coastal protected area. In that context, he conveyed Montenegro's readiness to continue contributing to the goals of this organisation and to play an active role in creating a more stable, secure and economically developed region.
