COP26: Our Actions Today Impact Tomorrow; Take Part in “Count Us In” Project

0

This year's COP26, the UN Climate Change Conference, is a key event in 2021. As world leaders come together to commit to urgent global climate action - COP26 has potential to shape the world we will experience by 2050. And we each have a part to play in delivering the climate change solution.

At Micro Focus, our aim is to make sustainable and responsible business core to the way we operate. As well as helping our customers address their carbon footprint and adopt carbon friendly IT strategies such as enabling greater efficiency and longer life from their existing technology, Micro Focus is committed to improving its own carbon footprint.

To further demonstrate our commitment to reducing our environmental impact, Micro Focus supports a number of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Climate Action. This is brought together by Micro Focus INSPIRE, our company-wide Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) framework. It covers every aspect of the organization, from how we manage relationships with employees, suppliers, customers and local communities - to how we play our part in shifting to a lower carbon economy and reducing the effects of climate change, as well as how we govern our business.

Action starts with education and awareness

Climate change is the most urgent threat facing our planet today, and education and awareness is the first step we can all take towards building a more sustainable future. To harness this, Micro Focus aims to raise awareness and build skills to help our people to live and work more sustainably. On Earth Day 2021, we launched a sustainability education program for all employees to enhance their understanding of climate change, and to equip them with the skills to consider the social and environmental impacts of their actions.

Providing impactful environment-themed campaigns and volunteering opportunities helps to further raise awareness and build skills. Earlier this year, Micro Focus introduced a virtual volunteering program for employees, which includes opportunities to support social and climate related causes, all aligned to the UN SDGs. Using their four days a year to volunteer, employees can take part in the virtual volunteering program with their teams to make meaningful impacts together.

In the run up to COP26, Micro Focus invited employees around the world to take part in the 'Count Us In' project and take small steps to reduce their carbon footprint. From walking and cycling more to reducing food waste, every step guides us in reducing our own carbon pollution - and the global aggregator helps us see what's possible when we all take action together.

Collaboration, one of the four COP26 goals, is critical to delivering sustainable outcomes. Together with our employees, customers, partners, suppliers and society, we are working to reduce our environmental impact and inspire sustainable actions that have long-term impacts. Because we know that our actions today, impact tomorrow.
