Morocco Elected to WHO Executive Board for 2022-2025

Friday 27 May 2022
The Kingdom of Morocco was elected to the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the period 2022-2025, as representative of the group of Eastern Mediterranean States (EMR), during the 75th World Health Assembly, held in Geneva from 22 to 28 May 2022.

Candidate for one of the two vacant seats under the region EMR, Morocco has been able to garner the support of member states of the Organization through the mobilization of the entire diplomatic apparatus of the Kingdom, in close coordination with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

This election is a pledge of the credibility of the Kingdom's action within the WHO for the promotion of global health, and reflects the confidence of the international community in the relevance of Morocco's approach to the management of the pandemic, in accordance with the Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which is based on proactivity, solidarity and the primacy of the health of citizens.

Morocco will use its mandate to contribute to the achievement of the "triple billion" goal, which is the focus of the WHO's five-year strategic plan, namely to protect one billion people from emergencies, to provide universal health coverage to one billion people and to ensure better health and well-being for one billion people by 2023.

WHO is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for leading and coordinating global health within the United Nations system, whose main areas of activity are communicable and non-communicable diseases, preparedness, surveillance and response to crises, promotion of health throughout life and strengthening health systems, recalls the statement, noting that the WHO Board, composed of 34 members, is the body responsible for the implementation of decisions and guidelines of the World Health Assembly.
