Two Men Arrested In Firearm Investigation, Spadina Avenue And Queen Street West Area

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of arrests made in a firearm investigation.

On Sunday, September 8, 2019, at 4:27 a.m., officers responded to a call for a person with a gun in the Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

- a 34-year-old man was in line at a fast food restaurant

- two men entered and began an argument with him and another man also in line

- one of the two men lifted his shirt showing a concealed handgun

- there was a struggle during which one of the victims was knocked to the ground

- the two victims fled the scene fearing being shot

- they were chased by the suspects, one of which pointed his firearm at them

- officers arrived and observed the two suspects running into a laneway

- both suspects were arrested, two loaded firearms were recovered

Jayson Jeyakanthan, 27, of Oshawa, was arrested. A warrant was discovered for his arrest dating back to March 2017. He is charged with:

1. Carry Concealed Weapon
2. two counts of Point Firearm
3. Possess Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace
4. Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
5. Possess Firearm Without Holding a License
6. Point Firearm
7. Assault with a Weapon
8. Use Firearm to Commit Indictable Offence
9. Store Firearm Carelessly
10. Carry Concealed Weapon
11. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
12. Possess Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
13. Possess Loaded Firearm
14. Possess Prohibited Device
15. Possess Firearm Obtained by Crime

Janson Jeyakanthan, 26, of Mississauga, is charged with:

1. Assault
2. Careless Storage of Firearm
3. Carry Concealed Weapon
4. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
5. Possession of a Firearm Knowing it's Possession is Unauthorized
6. Possess Loaded Firearm
7. Possess Prohibited device
8. Possess Firearm Obtained by Crime
9. Possess Schedule I Substance
10. Fail to Comply Recognizance

They will both appear in court at Old City Hall on Monday, September 9, 2019, at 10 a.m., in room 101.
