$15 million Petersham Station upgrade finished early

A $15 million upgrade to Petersham Station is complete, months ahead of schedule, featuring improved safety and accessibility for public transport customers.

Minister for Transport Andrew Constance said the work was able to be fast-tracked, delivering a more modern, accessible station well in advance of the original construction deadline.

'What is really great is this upgrade means Petersham Station is now compliant to current accessibility standards, making it more accessible to all customers, including those with limited mobility,' Mr Constance said.

'Because the work was finished about nine months ahead of schedule customers are able to use the new features much earlier than we expected which is so exciting. This includes the two new lifts, upgraded accessible paths in and around the station precinct, new family accessible and ambulant toilets and improved lighting and wayfinding.

'We have also created an accessible parking space, a Kiss and Ride space on Terminus Street and completed new landscaping and paving,' Mr Constance said.

The upgrade was delivered as part of the Transport Access Program, an initiative to provide a better experience for public transport customers by delivering modern, safe and accessible infrastructure.

As well as accessibility improvements, the station upgrade created around 50 jobs during planning and construction.

'I would like to thank the local community and our customers for their support while work was completed. Upgrades like this enable people of all ages and abilities to access public transport, no matter where they live,' Mr Constance said.

The NSW Government has committed more than $2.2 billion to the Transport Access Program since 2011.
