According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), total nonfarm payroll employment decreased by 261,000 jobs in October and the unemployment rate decreased to 4.1 percent. Over the past three months, total nonfarm payroll employment gains have averaged 162,000 per month, compared to an average of 156,000 per month over the last 12 months.
The food services and drinking places sector saw the largest gains in October with 89,000 jobs added while the professional and technical services sector came in second, adding 50,000 jobs. The average nonfarm pay rate decreased slightly $26.53 an hour while the average work week increased to 34.4 hours.
