Chairmen Green, Garbarino Release Statement on CIRCIA Proposed Rule

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) and Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Chairman Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) released a statement on the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency's (CISA) proposed rule for incident reporting required by the Cyber Incident Reporting for Critical Infrastructure Act of 2022 (CIRCIA):

"The Committee has eagerly awaited yesterday's notice of proposed rulemaking, which was years in the making. While our thorough review is still ongoing, we are committed to ensuring CIRCIA's implementation is a turning point in national cyber preparedness and fosters a partnership to ensure the government has increased visibility across the critical infrastructure networks.

"Since CIRCIA was crafted and signed into law, the American people have felt the impacts of numerous costly intrusions into critical infrastructure sectors by cyber threat actors, from the water sector to the healthcare sector. As the nation's risk advisor, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency must be empowered to identify cross-sector points of vulnerability and share information to mitigate such risks.

"The Committee looks forward to working with CISA and affected stakeholders to ensure the final rule aligns with the Congressional intent of this landmark bipartisan legislation. Amid increased cyber threats, implementation of CIRCIA is more important than ever to ensure a streamlined process for critical infrastructure owners and operators to mitigate risk and protect our national security, economy, and way of life."
