Event:Multilateral Stakeholders Consultative meeting on Institutional Arrangements for LED

A multi-stakeholders consultative meeting was organized todayfrom 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM via zoom platform to seek stakeholders' view and consensus on the proposed institutional arrangements in the draft Low Emission Development Strategy for surface transport. The meeting concluded with the defined clarity on the roles and responsibilities of each institution in implementing and achieving the targets identified in the document. The meeting was chaired by the Hon'ble Secretary, MoIC and was attended by Hon'ble Secretary, GNHC, Director, RSTA, CEO, BPC, along with 29 participants from UNDP, MoWHS, NECS, Thimphu Thromde,City Bus Services, RSTA, UNDP, MoEA and PPD Officials, MoIC. The meeting was moderated by the Chief Planning Officer, Policy and Planning Division, Ministry of Information and Communications.

The LEDs for Surface Transport sector is expected to be launched on 5thJune 2021. The document is a multi-year strategy that is designed in such a way that it brings about a synergy between the existing national development goals and interventions to garner a low-emission development pathway, while leveraging the existing feasibility studies and policies in place. Thus, the objective of the surface transport sector LEDS is to create a holistic intervention plan for the surface transport sector that can meet the short, medium, and long term mobility requirements in the country taking into consideration the emerging technologies, innovative solutions, and climate friendly interventions.
