Bismarck Together 2045 Comprehensive Plan Kick-Off set for September 29 and 30

BISMARCK, N.D. - The City of Bismarck invites all members of the public to learn about the new Together 2045 Bismarck Comprehensive Plan that is underway, and to take an active part in shaping the plan.

The Community Development Department will host a booth Sept. 17 and 18, at the Downtown Street Fair in Bismarck. The booth is located at site 206 just north of the Sanford outpatient clinic between 5th and 6th Streets. Everyone is invited to stop by and help to build a mosaic, share conversations about Bismarck, and pin ideas to a map.

Two kick-off meetings for the public will be held as follows:

  • September 29, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (Presentation at 7:30 p.m.) at Horizon Middle School, 500 Ash Coulee Dr., Bismarck
  • September 30, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (Presentation at 7:30 p.m.) at Wachter Middle School, 1107 S 7th St., Bismarck

The interactive meetings will include a short presentation that provides participants with information about the plan, and an opportunity to discuss and provide input about what they would like to see incorporated into the plan. Attendees will also join together in small groups to envision a future Bismarck. Input from the meeting will be used to guide the drafting of the comprehensive plan. Additional opportunities for public input will occur throughout the planning process, which will continue until the end of 2022. An opportunity to participate in meetings remotely will be also be available.

Mayor Steve Bakken said, "We're eager to begin engaging our community in the 'Together 2045' planning process. This plan offers a unique opportunity to listen to valuable input about what Bismarck could become over the next 25 years." The Together 2045 Bismarck Comprehensive plan will be Bismarck's guiding document for future growth and development of the physical, social, and economic environment. The North Dakota Century Code requires that zoning regulations for a municipality comply with a comprehensive plan. Ultimately, it is anticipated the plan will set forth a variety of goals, policies, and recommendations to guide the present and future development of the community. This plan will provide staff with an understanding of the future policy and regulatory changes needed over the next 25 years to align with community existing and anticipated needs.
