Argavand-Shirak new road segment put into operation

The construction of Argavand-Shirak road segment lasted approximately three years. This segment involves the metal bridge over the Hrazdan river and an overpass in the junction of Isakov-Babajanyan streets junction. The RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan, the vice-president of the Asian Development Bank Shixin Chen, members of the government and Council of Elders, other officials were present at the opening ceremony.

The length of Argavand-Shirak road segment of the western circular road of Yerevan is 2 ,7 km, average width is 26 m. The metal bridge has the length of 25 m and width of 28m.

"It will become possible to commute from Ashtarak passing by the city centre to Argavand and at the end of the bridge join Ararat province along Shirak street. This will relieve traffic jams in Yerevan which is of high importance for proper traffic organization. I'd like to express gratitude to the Asian Development Bank as due to loan means of the bank it became possible to construct the road which is of great significance for the city. Also, I want to thank "Egis International" and "Levantina Ingenieria y Construccion" contractor organizations that designed and supervised the process ensuring its safety and convenience", stressed the Mayor in his speech.

The construction of road segment started in 2019 and was financed with the second trench of the Sustainable Urban Development Program. It is a successful program realized jointly with the international partner organizations.

"The construction of this beautiful bridge is obvious success. It is a courageous architectural idea and corresponds meets European standards with its high safety. It should be noted that it changes the traffic direction passing by the city centre and reduces the time to get from the north to the south by 17 minutes. ADB is proud to have financed this important program as a part of its Sustainable Urban Development Program which supports Yerevan Municipality in improvement of urban infrastructures and services and in development of institutional abilities", noted the vice-president of the Asian Development Bank Shixin Chen.

All communication lines have been replaced and installed in a safer way. The external lighting is provided with LED lamps. Within the frames of the program 26 private entities got compensations the sum of which made up 265 million AMD.
This road segment also connects Malatia-Sebastia and Shengavit administrative districts.
