Las Olas Isles Undergrounding of Overhead Utilities

The City of Fort Lauderdale is coordinating utility undergrounding efforts throughout the Las Olas Isles neighborhood to enhance safety and resilience for our neighbors. The work will be completed by crews from Ferreira Construction Co., Inc. and includes:

  • undergrounding overhead utility wires through directional boring and limited excavations
  • installing all new cables, conduits, transformers, and related equipment
  • installing new underground electric and communication services to each home
  • installing new streetlights and poles
  • resurfacing streets and restoring curbing and landscaping as needed near new ground-mounted equipment facilities

Construction will begin on Tuesday, May 31 at Isle of Capri Drive and Mola Avenue. Work will take place Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. as crews move from west to east toward Isle of Palms Drive. This schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen conflicts. Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2022, though it is possible that utility companies may have additional work to do once the City's project is completed, including the installation of new cables and removal of existing poles.

Traffic Impacts

  • A single lane along each isle may be closed during work hours. Traffic control personnel will assist motorists as needed. Please follow posted signs and drive with caution in the area.
  • There may be times when equipment or materials temporarily block access to driveways during work hours. Crews in the field will coordinate with neighbors during these situations.
  • Driveway and roadway access will be restored at the end of each work shift.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and thank our neighbors for their continued patience as we work to complete this project as quickly as possible.
