Shot/Chaser/Lime: Steil Pretends to Care About Elections After Undermining Them

Bryan Steil continues to undermine democracy, this time alongside far-right extremist and election denier Jim Jordan.

Shot: Steil appeared in a video with Jordan, calling on Wisconsinites to "prevent out-of-state money from influencing our elections."

Chaser: It turns out that Steil himself has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from out-of-state money.

Lime: To make matters worse, Steil's fake concern about influencing elections comes as he appears with Jim Jordan, who voted to overturn the 2020 election.

This isn't the first time Steil has undermined democracy. He was called out last month for attacking voting access and peddling dangerous election conspiracies as Chair of the historically bipartisan House Administration Committee. He also hired a staffer who was involved in a fake elector scheme following the 2020 election.

DCCC Spokesperson Mallory Payne:
"Bryan Steil has no problem undermining our elections and attacking our democracy when it benefits himself and the extremists in his party. He couldn't be more out of touch with Wisconsin."

Wisconsin Law Journal: Bryan Steil teams up with election denier Jim Jordan
March 28, 2024

  • U.S. Congressman Bryan Steil appeared alongside Donald Trump ally Rep. Jim Jordan Wednesday in a call "to support Wisconsin Republicans' bad-faith effort to meddle in election administration and starve local governments of the resources they need to run elections," said Wisconsin Democrats.

  • In Steil's message, tweeted by the Wisconsin Republican Party, he called on Wisconsinites to prevent out-of-state money from being spent on Democrats.

  • A Wisconsin Law Journal investigation uncovered that Steil himself has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from out-of-state money from donors in the 2020 election. Donors include Koch Industries, Home Depot, several PACS, as well a long list of out-of-state individual donors.

  • As Steil raised the issue of influencing elections, Wisconsin Democrats pointed out Jordan voted to overturn the 2020 election.

  • The Wisconsin Law Journal reached out to Stiel's office requesting comment on Thursday. No one could be reached prior to publication.
