Hirono Votes to Pass National Security Supplemental, Deliver Critical Aid to Allies

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Chair of the Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support, today released the following statement after voting to pass the bipartisan national security funding package with aid for Ukraine, Israel, the Indo-Pacific, as well as humanitarian funding for civilians in Gaza:

"Today, after months of needless delay, Congress has made good on its commitment to stand with our allies and defend democracy at home and abroad. With urgently-needed funding for Ukraine, Israel, and our partners in the Indo-Pacific, this bill will help strengthen our national security, and that of our allies around the globe. Importantly, this legislation also includes billions in humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza-aid that needs to be delivered without delay or interference, in accordance with international law.

"Despite Republicans' reckless delay of this critical package, I'm relieved that sanity has prevailed and today, assistance is finally on its way to our allies, especially Ukraine. In this moment of global instability, American leadership is as important as ever. I'll continue working with my colleagues to ensure our national security and support our allies the world over."
