M1 bridges the digital divide by donating free mobile plans to support youths from low-income families

Supporting up to 10,000 youths with free access to mobile data, SMS and talk time for a year

To drive digital inclusion and give back to the community, M1 Limited (M1) today pledged to support the Data for All initiative by donating up to 10,000 SIM cards with free mobile plans to youths from low-income families under the Ministry of Social and Family Development's (MSF) Community Link (ComLink) programme, as part of the Digital for Life national movement supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).

The Data for All initiative is part of the Digital for Life national movement to provide mobile data access and connectivity to the underprivileged and vulnerable. Under this initiative, M1 will be supporting the younger generation to build up Singapore's future as they live, learn and play. Launched at the IMDA's inaugural Digital for Life Festival, the youths from the low-income families will get free access to 50GB data, 50 local SMS, 500 minutes of local outgoing calls and unlimited incoming calls every month for a year.

As a subsidiary of Keppel Corporation, M1 is a key pillar of Keppel Group's connectivity business. Through this initiative, M1 aims to contribute to bridging the digital divide in Singapore, ensuring that needy youths are not left behind as Singapore forges ahead in its digital nation endeavour.

"As we progress towards our vision of a fully-digitalised and connected Singapore, M1 is committed to investing in and supporting our youths, who will form the building blocks of our future, by equipping them with the tools to thrive in our digital future. M1 is honoured to be a part of the Digital for Life movement and to support the Data for All initiative to build a caring and digitally inclusive community," said Mr. Manjot Singh Mann, Chief Executive Officer, M1.

Mr. Lim Teck Kiat, Senior Director, Social Policy and Services Group, Ministry of Social and Family Development, said, "MSF is grateful to partner IMDA and M1 in the Data for All initiative in support of the Digital for Life movement. The free mobile and data plans for ComLink families will help enhance digital connectivity for them. Thank you M1 for stepping forward to contribute to uplifting lives and building a caring community."

"Digital for Life is a national movement to spur all Singaporeans to embrace digital as a lifelong pursuit and to be enriched by digital technologies. I am heartened to see like-minded partners such as M1 joining the Data for All initiative by using their platforms to galvanise the community to help all segments of society stay connected in the digital world. We welcome more to join us in this meaningful cause and together, build an inclusive digital society for all," said Mr. Lew Chuen Hong, Chief Executive, IMDA.

Eligible youths from low-income families will be informed by their respective Social Service Office (SSO). Registration and collection of SIM cards can be done at the Data for All carnival, or at roadshows held in conjunction with IMDA and ComLink starting from 21 May.
