At last it's possible to stroll around in person again, admiring exhibits and making purchases - while remaining safe and responsible at the same time! Basel's exhibition halls are about to reawaken: from 16 to 18 October 2020, a total of 130 furniture, fashion and jewellery designers will be breathing life into this pop-up store for sophisticated design. Awaiting visitors are independent labels from the domestic design scene as well as new discoveries in international design. Seventy new exhibitors will be presenting their designs in Basel this year.
At the start of July 2020, the MCH Group teamed up with the organisers of the blickfang design fair and other partners to present their RELOADING LIVE concept. Together with selected blickfang exhibitors, the MCH protection concept was tested live in a showroom in the Basel exhibition hall. Staged as a holistic 'visitor journey' for customers and partners, it illustrated how events can be held in a responsible and safe manner.

The comprehensive hygiene and safety measures that proved successful at RELOADING LIVE are now being put in place for the Basel design fair from 16 to 18 October. In the run-up to the fair, experts from the MCH Group provided the blickfang organisers with detailed advice and coaching on how to offer exhibitors and visitors a safe and carefree experience.
The safety measures adopted include tickets being available exclusively online this year, extended opening hours and compulsory face masks for all exhibitors and visitors in the exhibition halls, with the sole exception of the catering zone. The entrance to blickfang is equipped with disinfectant dispensers, and additional dispensers are positioned throughout the exhibition hall. To ensure optimum control of visitor numbers and compliance with the minimum physical distancing requirements at all times, only the number of people permitted by the current hygiene regulations will be admitted to the exhibition hall at any one time. The air-conditioning in the exhibition hall has been supplemented by a state-of-the-art ventilation system to ensure a constant exchange of air. And a tighter cleaning and disinfection schedule is in force for the sanitary facilities during the opening hours of the fair.
Visitors will thus be able to safely discover and purchase sophisticated design at blickfang 2020. Dieter Hoffmann, managing director and founder of the design fair, says: 'blickfang celebrates and promotes individuality and stylish, high-quality design - this season, more so than ever before. The past few months have shown us just how important it is to support local designers and independent labels so as to maintain diversity. The #supportsmalllabels hashtag has achieved an enormous reach in the social media. It's now a matter of transporting this support from the online world to the real one'.
