Baggeridge and Wom Brook officially named among UK's top green spaces

Baggeridge Country Park has been named among the UK's top parks and green spaces for the 24th year in a row, winning yet another Green Flag Award.

The internationally recognised award also went to Wom Brook Walk at Wombourne for a 13th year.

After two years that have seen parks and green spaces play a vital role through lockdown, the news that these sites have achieved the Green Flag Award is credit to the hard work and dedication of South Staffordshire Council and the volunteers that make the green spaces, great spaces that everyone can enjoy.

An idyllic location for the whole family, Baggeridge Country Park boasts a miniature railway, a children's play area, The Challenge Academy - featuring high ropes, instructor-led walks, a dog-friendly park and more.

The picturesque Wom Brook Walk, meanwhile, is a nature reserve consisting of woodland, grassland, a small valley, a canal, and a stream.

Councillor Len Bates BEM, Cabinet Member for Community Services at South Staffordshire Council commented: "We are always pleased to see how our residents use and enjoy Baggeridge and the Wom Brook Walk.

"These are valuable open spaces for our community and to receive an award which recognises their quality on a national scale, demonstrates the commitment of this council in caring for these sites."

Commenting on the news, Keep Britain Tidy's Accreditation Manager Paul Todd added: "I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making Baggeridge Country Park and the Wom Brook Walk worthy of a Green Flag Award.

"These are vital green spaces for the community in South Staffordshire. This award is testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers, who do so much to ensure that they maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award."

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
