Detectives Arrest Suspect in Stabbing Murder of Homeless Man

ANAHEIM, Calif. (May 13, 2022) - Homicide detectives have arrested 36-year-old Rolando Echenique for the stabbing murder of 53-year-old Jason Randall Dahl; both are Anaheim homeless men.

On Wednesday, May 11, at about 9:20 a.m., a passerby called Anaheim PD to report a possible deceased subject located in a field in the area of Phoenix Club Drive and Sanderson Avenue. Officers located Dahl in the field and confirmed that he was deceased. Dahl had sustained at least one stab wound.

On Thursday, May 12, detectives contacted Echenique near the crime scene and took him into custody without incident. Echenique was booked into the Anaheim Detention Facility for murder and is being held in lieu of $1 million. Detectives have declined to discuss possible motives or how Echenique and Dahl might have known each other.
