Pelosi Announces Nearly $10 Million for Wu Yee Children’s Services

April 28, 2024

San Francisco - Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi announced that Wu Yee Children's Services, a San Francisco non-profit organization established in 1976, will receive $9,676,763 from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. This new federal funding will support quality child care for families in San Francisco.

"Wu Yee Children's Services is the biggest provider of Head Start in San Francisco: providing excellent child care and education for our City's children," Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi said. "This new federal funding for Wu Yee - made possible by the leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration and the legislation of Congressional Democrats - will help make Head Start and Early Head Start available to more Bay Area families. In doing so, we help make sure more of our children reach kindergarten ready to learn and succeed."

Speaker Pelosi has been a longtime advocate for investing in teacher and classroom quality, focusing on school readiness, implementing universal pre-kindergarten programs and making Head Start and Early Head Start available to more children. Most recently in March, Speaker Pelosi announced $4 million in new federal funding for Kai Ming Head Start in San Francisco.
