SAN ANTONIO (October 21, 2021) - By unanimous vote, the City Council today approved the reappointment of Municipal Court Presiding Judge Carla Obledo to a two-year term.
Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda, Chair of the City's Municipal Court Advisory Committee, issued the following statement:
"Congratulations to Judge Carla Obledo on her reappointment as Municipal Court Presiding Judge.
The position comes with the responsibility of administrative oversight over the Municipal Courts. In her role as Presiding Judge she has helped reimagine and streamline the Municipal Court process with an online dashboard that was key to the Court operations throughout the pandemic.
The streamlining also helped improve communications throughout the Municipal Court System. She is the first Presiding Judge to go through the streamlining process and has done excellent work.
She has vast experience in her 20 years of service to the Municipal Court System. Her knowledge of trial processes, and specialty courts and proceedings - from search warrants to animal seizure warrants and DPS hearings - are a valued asset.
In a few weeks the Council will consider Municipal Court Kiosks, which takes the streamlining process to a higher level through automation, accessibility and time savings. I'm looking forward to that conversation in early November.
Congratulations once again, Judge Obledo, your reappointment is well deserved."
