Baseball Tops Coker in Non-Conference Action

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Augusta University baseball team won a 10-4 non-conference contest over Coker College on Wednesday afternoon at Jaguar Field. The Jaguars had 12 hits, which is their second highest total of the season.

Augusta (3-10) will meet the Cobra's again in Hartsville, S.C. on Tuesday April 21st.

Junior Skylor Murphy went 2-for-4 with two RBI, two homers, and two runs, Senior Brian Smith went 1-for-4 with 2 runs and three RBI. First baseman John Paul went 3-for-4. Second baseman Trent Maddox went 2-for-4 and scored two runs for the Jags. Ben Markiewicz, Mason Robertson, and Jose Nogueras all also carded hits during the game.

Augusta sent five pitchers to the mound during the matchup. Sophomore Righty Trevor Gordon started on the mound for the Jags. He pitched 3.2 innings and allowed 6 hits for 3 runs. ____ Ethan Dodd tossed for 1.1 innings and allowed 2 hits for 1 run. Freshman Rylan Lair pitched for 2.0 inning, allowed 2 hits and struck out 2 batters. Dodd was replaced by Aaron Chick who struck out 3 batters. Chase Horton was the final pitcher to see the mound. He tossed for 1 inning and allowed 1 run

Coker's C. Sain (0-1) took the mound and pitched for 3.1 innings. The Cobras utilized 3 pitchers during the game.

Coker took a 3-0 led at the top of the 4th, but a monster fourth inning by Augusta willed the Jags to a lead. Murphy scored on a bases loaded balk by the opposing pitcher. Robertson tripled to left field allowing Markiewicz and Maddox to score and Robertson scored on a passed ball. The Jags never relinquished after the 4th inning.

The fifth inning saw Augusta score 4 more runs.

Augusta plays at Flagler College February 28th-March 1st in St. Augustine, Florida for a conference triple header. . AU meets the Saints on Friday at 6:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m., and Sunday at 12:00pm.
