Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania

NEW YORK CITY, September 21, 2021-This afternoon, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania.

President Malpass and President Hassan discussed the World Bank's support to Tanzania in its efforts to mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and accelerate vaccinations. President Malpass affirmed the World Bank's willingness to support vaccine procurement, uptake, and deployment through IDA.

President Malpass encouraged Tanzania's efforts to improve the business environment and facilitate private sector-led growth through regulatory reforms. President Malpass raised the importance of electricity access, affordable housing, and digital infrastructure, including through regional solutions to improve efficiency and create more competitive markets.

President Malpass also emphasized the importance of debt transparency and encouraged careful selection of investment programs and their financing sources.
