Luxembourg and the Republic of Poland agree to cooperate on space activities with particular focus on the exploration and utilization of space resources

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, represented by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider, and the Republic of Poland, represented by the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology, Jadwiga Emilewicz, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to start bilateral cooperation on space activities with particular focus on the exploration and utilization of space resources. The five-year MoU covers the exchange of information and expertise in the areas of space technologies, policy, law and regulation.

Both countries agreed to regular exchange information on space resources and to promote a constructive dialogue with all United Nations member States, leading to the clarification and transparency of the current international legal and regulatory framework applicable to the exploration and utilization of space resources, thereby encouraging innovation and investment. To enhance international cooperation in these fields, the Grand Duchy has already signed similar agreements with Portugal, Japan, China, the Czech Republic and the United Arab Emirates.

Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider, declared: 'Both the Luxembourg and Polish economies are among the most dynamic and fastest growing in Europe. Major companies in the field of industry are active with operations in both of our countries. SES has its regional headquarters for Central and Eastern Europe in Warsaw. Building on these economic ties, this agreement will further endorse cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels in order to progress together with other nations on a future governance scheme and a global regulatory framework for space resources utilization.'

Poland's Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology, Jadwiga Emilewicz, stated: 'The MoU will create a convenient platform for the exchange of experiences and views between Poland and Luxembourg regarding peaceful exploration of space resources, in accordance with binding international law. We do believe it will foster cooperation between Polish and Luxembourg entrepreneurs including in the field of space mining.'
