Build Garland Day Features Parks and Recreation Projects on City's West Side

The City's fourth Build Garland Day event to celebrate projects from its 2019 bond election is planned for Saturday, May 11.

Come join Council members and City staff at 9 a.m. for a ribbon-cutting at Hollabaugh Recreation Center, 3925 W. Walnut St., then at 10 a.m. around the corner at the reimagined Watson Park, 1100 N. Yale Drive.

Hollabaugh Recreation Center improvements include a gymnasium, workout equipment, an additional multipurpose room and kitchen renovations.

Amenities at Watson Park, provided in partnership with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, now include a futsal court, splash pad, trail, upgraded playground area, resurfaced basketball court and improved soccer field. Parking and restroom facilities have also been added.

Garland voters approved the upgrades as part of $117.8 million in parks and recreation amenities in the City's May 2019 bond election. The West Garland Library, part of $21 million in library projects approved in that same election, is under construction adjacent to the rec center at Hollabaugh Park.
