UPDATE: Additional feedback event for Market House Repurposing

(Fayetteville, N.C.) - The Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations Commission will hold an additional public event to gather feedback on the repurposing of the Market House on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 12-2 p.m. at Cliffdale Recreation Center.

Residents who wish to participate or provide additional input are asked to use the form available at fayettevillenc.gov/markethouse.

Over the last month, community input meetings have provided feedback on repurposing options from hundreds of Fayetteville residents. Meetings and events were held either in-person and virtually with Haymount Manor Community Watch, NAACP, Fayetteville Ministerial Alliance, Grays Creek Fire Station, James Creek Community and the National Pan-Hellenic Council of historically Black fraternities and sororities.

The Fayetteville-Cumberland Human Relations Commission is gathering additional community input on the repurposing of the Market House. The Commission held two public meetings on April 21.

The meeting will provide participants the opportunity to review the recommendations put forth by the United States Department of Justice City SPIRIT process completed earlier this year that compiled various suggestions for repurposing. Fayetteville residents who attend will be given three markers to place next to the repurposing options in each of the three categories: themed events, marketing and art.

Over the coming month, the Human Relations Commission will also complete a series of community conversations with nearly a dozen affinity groups throughout Fayetteville to gather diverse feedback on repurposing recommendations.

All input gathered during this process will be provided to the Fayetteville City Council for review in July.
