SILVER SPRING, MD-The American Nurses Credentialing Center has awarded MinuteClinic®, the retail health clinic of CVS Health, the 2020 Pathway Award®, sponsored by Cerner Corporation, a global leader in health care technology. Headquartered in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, CVS Health is the nation's premier health innovation company, helping people on their path to better health.

The ANCC Pathway Award® honors a project proposal in a Pathway to Excellence® designated organization that creates a positive nurse practice environment using innovation and technology.

'Now more than ever it's important to support nurses as they work to provide care in their communities amidst the COVID-19 pandemic,' said Dr. Eva Karp, senior vice president & chief clinical patient safety officer, Cerner. 'We are proud to sponsor the ANCC Pathway Award as it closely aligns with Cerner's mission of advancing strategic innovation in health care for today and tomorrow. Congratulations to MinuteClinic as it works to implement advanced technology to improve clinical care.'

Virtual Collaboration (VC) for Nurses-CVS Health's winning proposal-will enable HIPAA compliant, high-quality virtual peer-to-peer consultations for the management of patients with both common acute and chronic health conditions. VC for Nurses equips MinuteClinic providers with a device-agnostic, HIPAA compliant, on-demand, collaboration solution that enables synchronous and asynchronous text, audio meetings, video meetings and image capture/exchange. Through this project, MinuteClinic® providers across the retail clinic's approximately 1,100 locations around the country will gain access to a powerful collaboration tool that can provide a richer and more contextual experience in real-time, enabling them to feel more connected to their peers, physician colleagues, nurses and allied health care teams as they provide high quality, collaborative clinical care in real time for patients.

'The ability to quickly and effectively collaborate with each other as well as other health care providers is an essential tool for our nurse practitioners and physician assistants as they work to provide coordinated care for our patients,' said Angela Patterson DNP, FNP-BC, NEA-BC, FAANP, Vice President and Chief Nurse Practitioner Officer of MinuteClinic. 'While we recognized the utility of this new virtual solution and had begun working towards implementation prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the current health crisis has underscored the importance of secure virtual tools to enable both the delivery of quality patient care and real-time collaboration and consultation with other health care professionals. We appreciate ANCC and Cerner for recognizing these significant efforts.'

'For nurses, providing high-quality care is impossible without efficient and effective collaboration, regardless of the setting. The Virtual Collaboration project recognizes that and seeks to make collaboration as secure and intuitive as possible, improving the care delivery experience for both nurses and patients in the process.' said Rebecca Graystone, MS, MBA, RN, NE-BC, vice president, ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® and the Pathway to Excellence® Program. 'Nurses at Pathway organizations are among the most innovative and dedicated working today. We are honored to support their efforts, and excited to see how they'll transform health care in the years to come.'
