CAS Hosting First-Ever Humanities Research Day April 24

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is hosting its first Humanities Research Day on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 4:30 to 6:00 pm in the Humanities Poetry Center. The idea for the event stemmed from suggestions by members of CAS Interim Dean Axel Drees' Student Advisory Council (DSAC) to provide a forum that would give humanities undergraduate students a glimpse into identifying and engaging research in their fields of study, and understanding how research opportunities in their disciplines differ from life/physical science research.

Humanities Research Day aims to bring together faculty who have successfully engaged undergraduate student researchers, and students who are looking to explore research opportunities in the humanities.

A panel consisting of faculty and students from across CAS will discuss their experiences and offer helpful information, such as what research looks like in the humanities, tips for getting started, research methods and skills, and opportunities for fellowships and internships. It will be co-moderated by members of the CAS DSAC team, including:

• Miranda Argyros '24, English Honors and psychology double major
• Laci Burton '25,BA English Honors; minors in women's, gender and sexuality studies, and writing and rhetoric
• Ujala Dar '24, biology, and globalization studies and international relations double major; health, medicine and society minor

Students who are interested in learning more about research in the humanities are encouraged to attend. Faculty who are currently working with undergraduate students or are interested in hearing more about ways to incorporate undergraduates into research programs and methods, are also encouraged to attend.
