Police Involved Shooting (Brooklyn)

Remarks as prepared for Chief of Patrol Terence A. Monahan:

Earlier this evening at 10:06 pm, uniformed officers from the 67th precinct responded to a 911 call for a man with a gun at 33-23 Church Avenue. Upon arriving, the officers confronted the suspect inside the store. The officers attempted to take the suspect into custody. The suspect fled northbound on 34th Street where he was observed with a firearm in his hand. One police officer discharged one round, which struck the suspect in the leg. The suspect continued fleeing northbound on East 34th Street, into 189 East 34th Street, where the suspect was apprehended. A firearm was recovered at the scene, which was later determined to be a bb gun. EMS transported the suspect to Kings County Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

This shooting happened just a few hours ago, so this information is preliminary and subject to change.
