Registrations closing for first APEC 2021 virtual media conference

Registration for the virtual media conference of the first APEC Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM1) of 2021 which will be held on Thursday, 11 March at 08:00 (Singapore) or 13:00 (New Zealand) is closing soon.

Vangelis Vitalis, the Chair of the 2021 APEC Senior Officials' Meetings, and Dr Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria, the APEC Secretariat's Executive Director, will address domestic and international media representatives focusing on APEC's priorities for the region as it responds to the economic impacts of COVID-19.

Senior officials will convene on 11-12 March virtually to track progress and plan for the forum to achieve the recently agreed Putrajaya Vision 2040of an 'an open, dynamic, resilient and peaceful Asia-Pacific community by 2040, for the prosperity of all our people and future generations.'

As APEC host in 2021, New Zealand is committed to charting a recovery and reigniting growth, leading the forum under the 2021 guiding theme of 'Join, Work, Grow. Together' and organizing APEC's agenda around three policy priorities:

  • Economic and trade policies that strengthen recovery, with a focus on the right macroeconomic, microeconomic and trade policy choices;
  • Increasing inclusion and sustainability for recoveryby building back better a society for all people and generating a green recovery; and
  • Pursuing innovation and a digitally enabled recoveryby accelerating the APEC region's work in these areas.

Registering for the entire APEC year

Media representatives who wish to attend APEC virtual media events, including the upcoming virtual media conference, need to be accredited. Registering now will provide accrediation for the entire year - accessing the various media conferences (for Senior Officials', Ministers' and Leaders' meetings) and other briefings that will be held throughout 2021.

Register by emailing [email protected]and providing the following information:

  • Given name and surname
  • Email address
  • Media organization
  • Photo of your business card or an email or letter confirming employment

Registered media will be contacted by the APEC 2021 New Zealand team to complete the registration process. Once the registration process is completed, media delegates will have access to the media conference and other materials for publishing, including speeches, video footage and photos. The deadline for media registration for the March 11 virtual media conference is Sunday, 7 March 2021. Once registered, media delegates are not required to repeat the registration process for future APEC media events.
