Russian peacekeepers provide security during recovery work of power lines in Nagorno-Karabakh

07.06.2021 (05:00)

The servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping forces continue to carry out tasks to monitor the ceasefire regime and ensure the security of the reconstruction of the infrastructure of settlements near the line of demarcation of the parties in Nagorno-Karabakh.

So in the Martuni district, while ensuring security, Russian peacekeepers are working to restore the power line that feeds the water well, which supplies drinking water to nearby settlements.

During the hostilities in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, some of the power lines that fed settlements and cities were damaged and were located near the demarcation line. Due to the fact that the local population is afraid to carry out work in such territories, the Center for Humanitarian Response of the Russian peacekeeping contingent receives requests for security.

In total, with the assistance of Russian peacekeepers, more than 100 km of power lines were restored to supply settlements and important social facilities.

In accordance with the agreements specified in the joint statement of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, from 00:00 (Moscow time) on November 10, 2020, a complete ceasefire and all hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh were announced.

To monitor the ceasefire and military operations, a peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is being deployed in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.
