TRAFFIC FATALITY – XIMENO AVENUE AND SHAW STREET

Collision Investigation detectives are investigating a traffic collision which occurred on May 4, 2024, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

At approximately 6:27 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Ximeno Avenue and Shaw Street regarding an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and an electric scooter.

Upon arrival, officers located a male adult with injuries to his upper body. Officers began providing lifesaving measures until the Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and took over medical aid. The scooter operator was transported to a local hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the female adult driver of a Ford C-Max was driving south on Ximeno Avenue near Shaw Street and collided with a male adult who was riding an electric scooter. Detectives believe the scooter operator did not stop at the stop sign.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving do not appear to have contributed to this collision.

The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner.
