Schools invited to plant a wheelbarrow to celebrate this year’s bloom.

Schools across the borough are invited to join the Tamworth in Bloom celebrations by planting their own wheelbarrow display for judging day.

As part of the Tamworth in Bloom 2022 theme of 'Get Blooming Active and Celebrate', Tamworth Borough Council are inviting local schools to get involved with a new Wheelbarrow Planting Challenge, ready for judging day on Tuesday, July 12.

The idea is simple, Street Scene have ten wheelbarrows and compost up for grabs for the first schools that sign up. Pupils can plant whatever they like inside; it could be carrots or cabbages, lilacs or lilies; all that matters is getting involved and being as creative as possible.

Wheelbarrows will be allocated on a first come first served basis and will be delivered the beginning of June. Any school can join in or even plant their own additional barrows.

Street Scene will then collect the wheelbarrows the week before judging day in July, where they will be displayed in the Castle Grounds as part of the Tamworth in Bloom Judging Day.

A winning entry will be decided and winners will receive vouchers for Planters Garden Centre so they can continue planting into the future.

Sarah McGrandle, Tamworth Borough Council's Assistant Director for Operations and Leisure, said: "We are excited to involve our local schools with the 'in Bloom' work and celebrations of this exciting year of events and planting.

"This summer is going to be fun-packed with exciting events and activities, supporting the Queen's Jubilee and the Commonwealth Games, and we hope to honour this with some stunning new planting across the borough and the Castle Grounds.

"We encourage schools to get in touch now to be a part of our best Bloom campaign to date!"
