Next phase of strike action goes ahead on Scotrail

Next phase of strike action goes ahead on Scotrail on Sunday as RMT warns that total inaction by Transport Scotland and Abellio compromises looming major events.

RAIL UNION RMT said today that the next phase of action by conductors and ticket examiners on Scotrail goes ahead as planned on Sunday in the long-running fight for pay justice for all grades on enhancements for rest day working.

The union says that industrial relations have now sunk to all time low as alongside the current disputes Scotrail have still not received any permission from Transport Scotland to commence any discussion with the unions over the 2021 pay submission

That total inertia takes no account of the fact that as we gradually move out of lockdown 2021 is a key year for Scotland's railways with a range of events planned including the Euros, Edinburgh Festival and COP26.

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said;

'It is extraordinary that the political leadership in Scotland who hold a direct brief for transport have allowed industrial relations on their railways to collapse. They need to intervene and they need to intervene now.

'The Scottish Government, Transport Scotland and Scotrail should all be focused on repairing our damaged industrial relations as passengers will be relying on good public transport services for the major events scheduled as we move out of lockdown in the months ahead.

'RMT is repeating the call for top level summit talks to sort out this industrial relations shambles on Scotland's railways'.
