To help bolster Canada's recreational boating industry, specifically in the global marketplace, NMMA Canada announced it was approved for $116,849 in funding from Global Affairs Canada through its CanExport Associations program. This is the seventh year that NMMA Canada has secured this funding, which will be used to support the efforts of Canadian recreational marine manufacturers to expand their business into new global markets. 2019-2020 funding opportunities include the 2019 Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS), 2019 Cannes Yachting Festival, and 2020 boot Dusseldorf Boat Show & Watersports Exhibition.
'NMMA Canada is thrilled to receive funding from Global Affairs Canada for the seventh year. The industry continues to appreciate all of the support received by the federal government to help further the success of our country's recreational marine industry and its export efforts,' said Sara Anghel, president of NMMA Canada. 'Canadian companies have established a strong presence at METS, and this funding will give more manufacturers the opportunity to exhibit at this important international trade show. We also look forward to attending new shows in Cannes and Dusseldorf to help expand Canadian manufacturing export efforts.'
The 2019 GOA funding will help support up to thirteen Canadian companies that would like to exhibit at METS in Amsterdam November 19-21, 2019. METS is the world's largest and most visited leisure marine equipment trade show with 26,000+ attendees and 1,600 exhibitors from more than 50 countries. The show provides an ideal opportunity for Canadian manufacturers to build business relationships overseas and increase exports.
'We were pleased to have the Ambassador of Canada to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Sabine Nölke, visit the Canadian Pavilion in 2018, and speak to all of the Canadian companies that exhibited,' noted Anghel. 'The relationship the Canadian marine industry has with the Embassy presents a strong opportunity to grow the market for these companies in the Netherlands and throughout Europe. We plan to create a networking event with the Ambassador again for 2019.'
The funding will also help support three Canadian companies attend the 2019 Cannes Yachting Festival in Cannes, France from September 10-15, 2019. The event is Europe's leading in-water boating event and one of the major boat shows in the world. The 2018 show had 542 exhibitors and more than 600 boats on display, with 58% of visitors to the show being foreign.
Three Canadian companies will also have the opportunity to attend the Dusseldorf Boat Show & Watersports Exhibition from January 18-26, 2020, to reach out to new distributors from key global markets, which had almost 2,000 exhibitors from 73 different countries for 2019. There is 220,000m² of stand space, and 250,000 visitors attend annually from over 100 different countries.
The CanExport Associations program aims to provide opportunities for Canadian manufacturers to pursue business opportunities outside of Canada. The program provides assistance across a wide range of sectors of the Canadian economy and (new for 2019-2020 funding) now matches funding of up to 75 percent of eligible expenses to support national associations for the benefit of the entire industry.
NMMA Canada has received more than $410,000 in CanExport Associations funding over the past seven years to support Canadian marine manufacturers and their international pursuits.
