Residents of Flatrock, Logy Bay–Middle Cove–Outer Cove, and Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s to benefit from improved public infrastructure

Flatrock, Newfoundland and Labrador, January 25, 2019-The governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador recognize that strategic investments in modern and efficient roadways, reliable water and wastewater services, and recreational infrastructure play a key role in supporting dynamic communities while creating good jobs that help grow the middle class.

Nick Whalen, Member of Parliament for St. John's East, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities; the Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour and MHA for Virginia Waters-Pleasantville; and Darrin Thorne, Mayor of Flatrock, today announced more than $2 million in joint support for three public infrastructure projects in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Government of Canada is investing over $514,000 in these three projects through the Small Communities Fund and the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is contributing over $423,000 total, with the municipalities involved providing more than $1 million in total for the projects.

The first project consists of the installation of a roundabout at the intersection of Snow's Lane and Logy Bay Road in Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove. Once completed, residents and tourists alike will benefit from smoother and safer driving conditions.

The second project includes the construction of a new chalet at the Red Head Recreation Complex in Flatrock. The new chalet will offer local residents enhanced community programming, summer camps and a space for the local 50 plus club, enabling participants to engage in fun and healthy activities year-round.

The third project will support the installation of new water and sewer mains to homes on Drovers Heights road in the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philips, providing modern and efficient water and wastewater service to area residents.
