International trade in goods in September 2021 shows strong growth in comparison to September 2020; imports +20.6%, exports +15.9%

Vienna,2021-12-07 - The value of imports of goodswas at €15.37 bn in September 2021, an increase of 20.6% compared to September 2020, according to preliminary results by Statistics Austria. At the same time, exports of goodsrose by 15.9% to €14.89 bn. The balance of trade thus showed a deficit of €0.48 bn. Working-day adjusted, the rates of increase were 21.7% for imports and 16.5% for exports.

The four most important product groups for international trade in goods are machinery and transport equipment, manufactured goods, chemicals and related products and miscellaneous manufactured articles. Aggregated they showed an import growth of 15.6% to €12.04 bn and their exports rose by 13.2% to €12.54 bn. The highest absolute growth in exports was recorded with manufactured goods (+24.1%), followed by machinery and transport equipment (+6.6%).
