"As one of New Jersey's most respected conservationists, Richard Sullivan not only dedicated his life to protecting the environment, but he established New Jersey as a national leader in pollution control, coastal protection, and land preservation," said Stanfield (R-8). "My legislation will formally recognize Richard's legacy and designate the NJDEP's Trenton headquarters in his name."

Stanfield's bill, S-2728, designates the Department of Environmental Protection state building located in Trenton as the "Richard J. Sullivan Building."

Richard Sullivan was the first Commissioner of the DEP for the State of New Jersey, served as the Chairman of the Pinelands Commission, and helped establish Liberty State Park.

"Richard was an individual, who, through his public service and leadership, provided a model of excellence and commitment for others that followed after him," added Stanfield. "His contributions will have a lasting impact on New Jersey for many generations."
