With four days to go until our First Round, First Leg tie against FC Vaduz, the question is, who are FC Vaduz?
Founded in 1932, FC Vaduz are a Club based in the Liechtenstein capital of Vaduz.
Officially the largest and most successful club in Liechtenstein, Vaduz play their domestic league football in the Swiss Football League but in their early years also played in Austria!
Liechtenstein is a small country (the fourth smallest in Europe) with a population of just 37,000 and is situated between Austria and Switzerland. There's no airport or train station and they use Swiss Francs as their currency.
They play at the Rheinpark Stadion which is also their national stadium, it has a capacity of 7,584. Vaduz is unique in that it represents its own national association in the Europa League when winning the domestic cup (Liechtenstein Cup), whilst playing in another country's league - a cup they have won 45 times!
Last season, Vaduz finished 10th in the Swiss Super League but were relegated to the Swiss Challenge League after 3 years in the top tier. Managed by Roland Vrabec, he has been in the post since April.
Moreno Costanzowas their top goalscorer last season with 6 goals in 24 games and Philipp Muntwiler made the most appearances but their squad are full of players who have represented their country.
The most prominent landmark of Vaduz is Vaduz Castle, the home of the reigning prince of Liechtenstein and the Liechtenstein princely family who own FC Vaduz.
In the Europa League, they have done well in recent years. They progressed into the 2nd Round and faced Midtjylland in 2016-17 and reached Round 3 in 2015-16 and were knocked out by Thun of Switzerland.
They have faced Falkirk in 2009-10 but this will be their first time facing Welsh opponents. We are looking forward to welcoming all the staff, players and supporters of FC Vaduz to Belle Vue on Thursday evening!
