More than 150 pilgrims from Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh with the assistance of Russian peacekeepers visited the Amaras monastery complex

More than 150 pilgrims from Armenia and the settlements of Nagorno-Karabakh, with the assistance of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, visited the ancient monastery complex of Amaras, located near the demarcation line of the parties in Nagorno-Karabakh.

On the eve of the church service at the facilities of the monastery complex located near the demarcation line, Russian peacekeepers inspected the territory adjacent to the complex, took measures to monitor compliance with the ceasefire regime, as well as to ensure the safety of the movement of the convoy with pilgrims on the route Stepanakert - Amaras monastery and back.

Amaras is one of the early medieval Christian monasteries located on the territory of the Martuni district. The Amaras complex in medieval Armenia had the status of a famous religious and cultural center.

As a result of the agreements reached, pilgrims from Stepanakert are freely allowed to enter the territory of the Amaras monastery accompanied by servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh.

In accordance with the agreements specified in the joint statement of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, a complete cease-fire and all military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh were declared from 00: 00 Moscow time on November 10, 2020.

A peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation has been deployed to monitor the ceasefire and military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh.
