Maloney Honors the Victims of the September 11th Attack on its 20th Anniversary

Newburgh, NY - Today, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) released the following statement in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the September 11th terror attack:

'Today, we come together as a nation to honor the family and loved ones that we lost twenty years ago in the September 11th attacks and all the heroes who have served since. The lasting legacy of that day is not one of hate - but of heroism and selflessness. It is a testament to the unbreakable spirit of the United States. I want to honor the bravery of the first responders who ran towards danger and saved countless lives. I believe we have a duty to build a country that is worthy of their sacrifice.

'If you need a reminder about what is right about America, just remember those who gave all on September 11 and every day since. That should inspire every elected official to get back to work because there isn't anything wrong with this country that can't be fixed by what is right with us. God bless America.'

This morning, Rep. Maloney joined the family and loved ones of those lost on September 11 at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum at Ground Zero. Later today, he will attend the remembrance ceremony at the Orange County Arboretum in Montgomery.

In Congress, Rep. Maloney has prioritized advocacy for the victims of 9/11. He is an original co-sponsor of the 9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding Correction Act, which was introduced last month. This legislation addresses a funding shortfall in the World Trade Center Health Program and ensures its adequate funding now and in the future. He also was a proud original co-sponsor of the Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act, which was signed into law in 2019. The bill extends the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund (VCF) for 9/11 responders, survivors, and their families until 2092 and covers the existing gaps in the fund.

Rep. Maloney serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI), commonly known as the Intelligence Committee. He is the only Democratic New Yorker on the Committee and works every day to ensure New York is safe from future physical and cyber threats.
