President Pro Tempore de León Announces Appointments

SACRAMENTO- California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D- Los Angeles), Chair of the Senate Rules Committee, has announced the following Rules Committee Appointments:

Steve Landreth, a Republican from Temecula, has been appointed to the Carpet Stewardship Advisory Committee. Mr. Landreth is regional president of ProSpectra Contract Flooring, a commercial flooring contractor. He is a member of Associated General Contractors and Local Union 1399 Health and Welfare Trust. This is a pleasure term. Members of the advisory committee serve without compensation, but shall be reimbursed for actual and necessary travel and other expenses incurred in the performance of their official duties.

The purpose of the Carpet Stewardship Advisory Committee is to provide recommendations on carpet stewardship plans submitted to the Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery.

David Toston, a Democrat from Roseville, has been appointed to the Advisory Committee on Special Education. Mr. Toston is Associate Superintendent, Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Programs, with the El Dorado County Office of Education. He is a member of the Coalition for Adequate Funding for Special Education, California Authorizers Regional Support Network, and SELPA Administrators of California. The term end date will be December 31, 2021. Compensation will be actual and necessary expenses.

The purpose of the Advisory Committee on Special Education is to study, assist and advise the Board of Education in new or continuing areas of research, program development and evaluation in special education.

Helena M. Montes, JD, a Democrat from Los Angeles, and Sammy Nunez, a Democrat from Stockton, have been appointed to the Gang Database Technical Advisory Committee. Ms. Montes is an attorney, professor, and Clinical Co-Director of Loyola Law School, Los Angeles - Immigrant Justice Center. She is a member of the Mexican American Bar Association, American Immigration Lawyers Association, and East Los Angeles Pathway to Law School Program. This is a pleasure term. Each member of the committee will serve without compensation.

Mr. Nunez is a community organizer/community intervention worker Fathers & Families of San Joaquin. He is a member of California Alliance for Youth and Community Justice, California Alliance for Boys and Men of Color, and Stockton Trauma Recovery Center. This is a pleasure term. Each member of the committee will serve without compensation.

The Gang Database Technical Advisory Committee advises the Department of Justice in promulgating regulations governing the use, operation, and oversight of shared gang databases.
