PSO Announces $75,000 AEP Foundation Grant to the African American Leadership Academy

Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO), a subsidiary of American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP), today announced a $75,000 social and racial justice grant from the AEP Foundation to the Tulsa African American Leadership Academy. The academy's goal is to expand the number and effectiveness of African American leaders in Tulsa with each program completed.

The announcement was made in connection with the graduation of AALA's first class of leaders, held Thursday at Greenwood Rising. PSO President and Chief Operating Officer Peggy Simmons, an advisory council member of the Tulsa AALA, was a part of Thursday's events.

The AEP Foundation, the charitable arm of AEP, provides grants in Oklahoma on behalf of PSO. The gift is part of the foundation's Delivering on the Dream: Social and Racial Justice grant program, a five-year commitment to fund organizations with programs dedicated to advancing social and racial justice in AEP communities.

"This community-based program strengthens the Tulsa leadership landscape by providing the skills, resources and teamwork power to mid-level and above African American leaders," Simmons said. "By helping those who are already demonstrating excellence and giving them the connections and opportunities to accelerate their careers, we can make a lasting, positive impact on the Greater Tulsa community."

In addition to supporting the launch of AALA in Tulsa, the AEP Foundation grant will fund longer-term sustainability for the program.

In 2020, the AEP Foundation began the Delivering on the Dream program to award social and racial justice grants to organizations that play pivotal roles in working to eliminate systemic racism.
