WinterContact TS 870 Wins Auto Zeitung Winter Tire Test 2022

Hanover, Germany, September 29, 2022. The Continental WinterContact TS 870 is the clear test winner in Auto Zeitung's 2022 winter tire test. "We are pleased that the Auto Zeitung has confirmed the previous test results this year and that, in addition, the development performance of our team has also been highlighted. We have once again succeeded in living up to our premium claim of safety in all seasons," says Andreas Schlenke, tire developer at Continental.

Strong test results on all surfaces

Auto Zeitung tested eight tire models with the snowflake symbol in the 225/45 R 17 dimension for compact cars. In their assessment of Continental's model, the testers highlighted the tires' strong performance and accompanying driving safety on all tested surfaces. On snow, the WinterContact TS 870 showed the shortest braking distances, the highest lateral grip and at the same time dynamic handling with an extremely grippy front axle. On wet ground, the tire impressed with the combination of the highest displacement of water in aquaplaning situations, short braking distances and the best grip in fast corners. On dry roads, too, the model scored with an excellent limit range and very high driving safety. The testing trade magazine sees the main reasons for the success in the coordination of rubber compounds, substructure and sidewall.

With the WinterContact TS 870, Continental has launched a completely redesigned tire. The tread design, construction and compound have been revised. The new development enables three percent shorter braking distances on ice compared to the predecessor model. On snowy surfaces, handling has been improved by five percent, as has grip. And that's with an increase in mileage of ten percent.

WinterContact TS 870 continues string of test wins

The test victory of the WinterContact TS 870 follows on from the model's successful performance in other important tests in the industry. This year, for example, it took first place in all tested sizes in the winter tire test of the major automobile clubs in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It also has already come out on top in the test by the trade magazine Auto Express (UK).
