WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a grant of $4,676,880 to Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency, Inc. Head Start Program:
'It's always great to see strong investments being made to improve the lives of East Tennesseans. This Head Start grant will help ensure children in Carter, Greene, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington Counties have access to opportunities that will prepare them for elementary education. Head Start promotes the school readiness of young children from birth to age 5 in our communities by providing early childhood education, social skill development and health services for low income families. I am very pleased to see Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency receive the critical funding they need to continue programs that give opportunity to over 1,000 kids and their families.'
