Madrid – Made in Italy against AI

The Italian Embassy in Madrid organised a Made in Italy challenge inspired by the famous chess game between Kasparov and IBM's "Deep Blue" supercomputer. Six testimonials from different sectors - agrifood, technology, design and interior design, cultural and creative industries, tourism, fashion - both Italian and Spanish, took part in a challenge against computers equipped with AI. The initiative was promoted by the Embassy together with the ITA Madrid Office, in collaboration with the Forbes España magazine, which published a special supplement entirely dedicated to Italy and Made in Italy in April.

The testimonials from the Italian Embassy in Madrid who joined the Made in Italy challenge against AI (Gemini and Chatgpt) were the following:

  • For agrifood: chef Andrea Tumbarello, one of the best-known Italian restaurant entrepreneurs in Spain, known as the "Truffle King".
  • For technology: Nanda Rea, a research manager in Astrophysics at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Barcelona.
  • For design: architect Beatriz Silveira, curator of the Italian Space at the last edition of Casa Decor.
  • For creative and cultural industries: philosopher Valerio Rocco Lozano, director of the Círculo de Bellas Artes.
  • For tourism: writer and journalist Carlos Pascual, a regular columnist for El País and magazines such as Viajes National Geographic and author of a soon-to-be-published book on Tuscany.
  • For fashion: well-known actress and model Ines Sastre.

The event, which according to data provided by Forbes was watched live by 6,477 people, was presented by renowned Telecinco journalist Laila Jiménez, who set the pace for the intellectual duels that ensued during the meeting.

In his opening speech, Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi pointed out that a challenge between human beings and AI is "an original, innovative way of promoting Made in Italy, addressing a topic - that of AI - that is highly topical and interesting for its social and legal implications, on which the Italian G7 Presidency is also working."
