State police arrested a Bronx man for Criminally Negligent Homici...

On September 23, 2023, State Troopers and investigators from the Middletown barracks responded to Route 17K near the intersection of Youngblood Road in the town of Crawford for a report of a two-car collision with a subject unconscious and not breathing. Upon arrival, troopers observed Gerald Filcher, age 64, from Bloomingburg the driver of a Toyota pickup truck, was observed deceased because of the collision. Marcos Medina, age 34, from Bronx, NY was operating a box truck traveling east on Route 17K when he crossed over into the opposite lane and struck Filcher's vehicle.

After a 7-month investigation, on April 25, 2024, Medina was arrested for Criminally Negligent Homicide. Medina was arraigned in the City of Middletown Court by Honorable Judge Theresa Cayton where he was released on his own recognizance and ordered to appear at the Orange County Department of Probation on April 26, 2024, 10:00 a.m. Medina was also scheduled at appear in the Town of Crawford Court on May 7, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.
