Arklow RNLI rescues two onboard sailing vessel that gets into difficulty

Arklow RNLI launched this morning (Friday 23 August) at approximately 9am following a launch request from the Irish Coast Guard.

A yacht with two onboard was reported to be to the rear of the North Pier just outside Arklow harbour.

In slight conditions, the volunteer crew launched Arklow RNLI's all-weather lifeboat, and proceeded to the location near the river entrance and was on scene minutes later.

The crew then assessed the situation and observed that the yacht was at anchor and had lost propulsion. A towline was passed to the yacht and the vessel with two aboard was towed safely back into Arklow Harbour.

Following the incident, Mark Corcoran, Community Safety Officer and Lifeboat Press Officer at Arklow RNLI said: 'We would like to thank all of our volunteers who were mostly en-route to or already in their respective jobs when the pagers were activated. We would like to remind people to respect the Water and always wear a lifejacket and carry a means of calling for help when going out on or near the water.'
