Package of Amendments to Electoral Code Passed

On May 7, the parliament continued the works of the extraordinary sitting convened by the deputies' initiative.

The debate of the package of draft laws in the second reading on Making Amendments and Addenda to the Constitutional Law - the RA Electoral Code and the enclosed ones authored by the NA My Step Faction and the item on completely adopting was on the agenda.

The key rapporteur Hamazasp Danielyan informed that the written proposals on the legislative package were not presented, according to it, draft laws were not amended.

Hamazasp Danielyan noted that, in particular, the procedure for holding elections in conditions of martial law and state of emergency was clarified by the legislative initiative. 'There has been an important amendment to the list of voters which will give an opportunity to remove names of up to 200.000 people from the lists. It is about those citizens who do not have valid documents. Such declaration of the expenditure liabilities, as the rent of headquarters and the workers' salaries will be obligatory in terms of financial transparency,' he stated.

The key rapporteur underlined that the rules of political restraint of civil servants were clarified too.

Vahagn Hovakimyan presented the endorsement of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs by the co-report. He mentioned that the only proposal was his which was of a technical character.

The Deputy Minister of Justice Kristinne Grigoryan noted that the opinion of the Government is positive and urged them to vote in favor.

The parliament completely adopted in the second reading the legislative package on Making Amendments and Addenda to the Constitutional Law - the RA Electoral Code by 81 votes in favor of it.
