'We expected a good season… not as good as this!' – Ten Kate’s Kervin Bos on 10th WorldSSP title

Ten Kate Racing's team manager Kervin Bos talks of a stunning 11th World Championship title, looks back at 2021 highlights and says "big news" is coming, with a view of a WorldSBK return by 2023

The 2021 FIM Supersport World Championship was wrapped up in style as Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) took a record-breaking 14th podium of 2021 to take a first World Championship title. However, it also marks a return to title-winning ways for the legendary Ten Kate Racing brand, who take their tenth World Supersport crown and their first with Yamaha machinery. Team manager Kervin Bos was overjoyed with the achievement and looks forward to a glistening future.

"It is a really unbelievable achievement for us; we achieved our 11th World Championship title: our tenth in World Supersport and one in WorldSBK years ago," began Bos, fresh from the emotions of Aegerter crossing the line to give the Dutch team their first WorldSSP title since 2014. "It's been an emotional ride and an amazing ride with Yamaha, and I think we showed with all of our partners and suppliers that in our comeback season, World Supersport suits Ten Kate Racing really well."

Glancing back and remembering the season highlights, Bos spoke of Assen but also Misano: "The project yellow started with a joke in the shop, because Dominique likes yellow, and yellow is a big part of the history of Ten Kate. So, we thought for us to do something special, and we developed project yellow. It was also amazing to get the double at Misano, as that was the kind of breakthrough in the season. Step-by-step we were getting better and in winning ways; every win was special to be honest!

Talking about working with Aegerter and achieving the title in their comeback season, Bos said: "The season has been amazing to be honest; we expected a good season but not as good as this. This is our comeback season in World Supersport, last year we were active in WorldSBK with Loris Baz, but in the winter, we switched to World Supersport. There were a lot of riders who were interested to ride for our team, mainly for our history and way of working, but straight away we had the correct feeling with Dominique Aegerter, and with our owners - Gerrit and Ronald Ten Kate - we decide on Dominique, because of the sparkle in the eye and the mentality of being northern European and hard-working suited us at Ten Kate Racing."

The future looks bright for Ten Kate Racing Yamaha and "big news" may well be on the horizon in the not-too-distant future: "We are really, really close to signing with the current Champion, as we can say now! I think soon, you will get some big news about our rider line-up, but the plan is to stay with two riders in World Supersport, and then the year after, to come back again with one bike in WorldSBK. As you can imagine, we want to proceed with Dominique, but I can't tell you everything at the moment!"

World Champion Dominique Aegerter also felt at one with Ten Kate Racing and new straight away that they had potential together: "I am super happy to work with Ten Kate. When I saw them for the first time in November last year, I was so happy to see them all. Immediately, I get the good confidence with them, and I think their mentality is very similar to the Swiss one, which always helps. I don't want to say that other teams it's not so good, but there is always a different mentality to work. When I come to see the Ten Kate team, I was able to get a lot of confidence. They work hard and they are focused but can also be a lot of fun! It's a good mix between working hard and having fun and I hope that we can continue next year together and fight again for the title." You can read Aegerter full Championship-winning reaction here.
